1966 Mercury Cyclone GT

We found this car in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. This car is one 100 Indy 500 Pace Cars that Ford made for the 1966 Indy 500.  Only the pace car versions of the Cyclone got a red exterior paint, white convertible top, white parchment seats, a 390 V8 S-code engine, and a C6 transmission. Unfortunately, the car was taken apart ca. 25 years ago, and never re-assembled. As far as we can tell, all of the parts are there, but it is going to be a longer term project.

Will this be for sale following restoration? If so, through what means?
    How is restoration going?
    Thanks

We just aquired one as well, needing to be put together. Does your vin have a 28 in it? We are trying to figure out the vin to see if it is a real pace car or not. Thank you! We are excited to get this old girl put together the correct way!

      Ms. Ahearne,
If it is a true Indy Pace Car, it must have a 28 in the VIN number. If I remember correctly, the first four digits/letters should be 6H28, not the usual 6H29.

Thank you. We do have a 6h28 in the vin. Was made in April, so that fits too. There are cut outs in the rear bumper, and bolts in the frame. Possibly for the flag holders? It could be a parade car or actual pace car? Has the tach on the dash, c6 trans, 390 4 barrel, red, with white interior. We think it maybe!!! It’s been in our family for 25 years + and now is finally getting it’s love and we want to restore it correctly!
